ISTANBUL JULY 2008
Short but sweet week in Istanbul. . .
I studied Turkish Oryantal with the best: the legendary Sema Yıldız, who worked me hard, but treated me like a sister. In addition to my week-long intensive in choreography, technique, and stage presence, and I gave three performances arranged by my hoca (teacher) Sema: at Beyzade in Tepebaşı, at Gemi Bar in Tünel,
and at Sultana’s in Taksim-Elmadağ. She also provided me with the opportunity to spend time with a wonderful gypsy family who graced me with a unique and intimate glance at their dance and culture.
